Zoos and Deer Parks

Apart from Nandankanan, which is a large zoo, there are seven numbers of Deer Parks (called mini zoos) being managed in the State by the Forest Department.

1. MOTIJHARAN

Location: Sambalpur district
Management: DFO, Hirakud Wildlife Division, Sambalpur
Stock position of animals: Elephant-1, Spotted deer 58, Chausingha-10, Barking deer-2, Sambar-1, Leopard-1, Slothbear-1, Rabbit-11, Monkey-3, Python-1, Hawk eagle-1, Peacock-4, Grey hornbill-3, Parakeet-26, Duck-5, Moorhen-1.

2. HARISHANKAR

Location: Harishankar, Bolangir District.
Management: DFO, Bolangir Division, Bolangir
Stock position of animals: Spotted deer-115 (48 M + 67 F)

3. KUANARIA

Location: Kuanaria , Nayagarh District
Management: DFO, Mahanadi Wildlife Division, Nayagarh.
Stock position of animals: Spotted deer-139 (48 M + 91 F), Sambar-2 (2 M), Barking deer-4 (3 M + 1F).

4. PAPADAHANDI

Location: Papadahandi/ Nawarangpur
Management: DFO, Nawarangpur Division.
Stock position of animals: Spotted deer- 39 (20 M + 9 F)

5. TAPTAPANI

Location: Taptapani, Gajapati District
Management: DFO, Parlakhemundi Division,Parlakhemundi.
Stock position of animals: Spotted deer-47 (15 M +32 F),Sambar-3 (1M + 2 F), Blackbuck-1

6. KAPILASH

Location: Kapilash , Dhenkanal District
Management: DFO, Dhenkanal Division, Dhenkanal
Stork position of animals: Spotted deer-105 (42 M + 63 F), Four-horned antelope-6 (3 M + 3 F), Sambar-17 (7 M + 10 F), Rabbit-24, Guinea pig-32, Bear-4 (1+3), Mithun-7 (3 M + 4 F), Otter-1, Peacock-1, Indian swan-1, Chandini sua-13, Pigeon-17, White ibis-1, Mugger crocodile-2.

7. RAJBHABAN

Location: Bhubaneswar, Khurda District
Management: Director, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar.
Stock position of animals: Spotted deer-78 (46M + 32 F);
Blackbuck-08 (05 M + 03 F).
Besides the above, there are also mini zoos and deer parks managed by organisations / institutions other than the Forest Department

Organisation / Location: CMC, Cuttack.
Stock position of animals: Spotted deer-25 (9 M+10 F+6 un-sexed)

2. INDIRA GANDHI PARK ZOO

Location: Steel plant, Rourkela
Stock position of animals: Sambar-2, Spotted deer- 30 (10M+20F), Barking deer-9 (4M+5F), Four-horned antelope-1, Sloth bear- 4 (3M+1F), Common langur-1 (1+1), Common palm civet-1, Mugger-2(1+1), Gharial-3(1+2), Python-2, Parakeet-18, Spotted dove-1, Peafowl-4, White ibis-4, White peafowl-1, Munia-8, Bugrigarh-1, Koel-1.

3. ITR, CHANDIPUR DEER PARK

Location: ITR, DRDO Chandipur
Stock position of animals: Spotted deer-50
